Designing THE RIGHT KITCHEN CABINET
When choosing the cabinetry for your new kitchen, you must check which cabinet – framed or frameless, is best for you based on your space, usage, look and feel preferences. Here are the most popular options to choose from when deciding on framed or frameless kitchen cabinetry. Your kitchen space can be accessorized and customized with a range of styles, including your islands, cabinets, appliances, and more.
Kitchen Island
Kitchen islands are now trending and are a must when remodeling your kitchen space. Islands offer a more elegant alternative to small dining tables, and these can be customized too.
Island with Dining Option
An island is popularly used as a dining space for your quick breakfasts, mellow dinners, or even for any meal during the day. Islands are built high enough to put in 2 to 6bar chairs, depending on the available space.
Island with built-in microwave and cabinets
A microwave is installed on an island through a built-in microwave drawer. It helps save space on your countertop, provides accessibility to the kids due to low height, and is easier to clean. You can also customize your island to build storage cabinets under it, including pot drawers, pullout shelves, and more.
Waterfall Island
The term ‘waterfall’ is used for kitchen islands that have their countertop flowing over the edge all the way to the floor, providing aseamless experience. Waterfall islands are modern-looking and offer a great chance to display opulent countertops.
Custom Island Designs
You can customize your island to include a range of options that suit your preferences – an island sink, an island stove with a downdraft hood, a wine cooler, a dishwasher, and more. Melio Custom Cabinets custom builds your island to fulfill your requirements.
Kitchen Peninsula
A peninsula is the extension of your existing kitchen countertop and cabinets, rather than a free-standing island. A peninsula offers additional space to store, prepare meals, and sit and eat.
Kitchen Cabinet Designs
Your kitchen cabinets consist of lower or base cabinets, upper cabinets, and corner cabinets. Base cabinets can include a spice rack, cutlery drawers, pot drawers, a garbage pull-out under the sink, and much more.Due to their unusual position, corner cabinets are hard to access, therefore, Melio Custom Cabinets offers a range of design solutions through accessories such as the LeMans system, or the Lazy Susan system to make your corner cabinets more accessible.
The upper cabinets mostly include shelves, with wood or glass doors. In modern kitchens, upper cabinets run all the way up to the ceiling and have beautifully-carved crown moldings installed at their edges.
Kitchen Pantries
A pantry consists of a tall cabinet with a door, with either fixed shelves or pull-out shelves in it. Pantries are used to store non-perishable food items, kitchenware, small kitchen appliances such as food processors, and more.
A pantry can be either a reach-in pantry or a walk-in pantry. Reach-in pantry is a tall-standing cabinet with a door, located in your kitchen space or in a location quickly accessible. A walk-in pantry is a small storage room, with built-in storage shelves or standing storage rack. Walk-in pantries can hoard a large number of food items, but also require a large space to be built.

Choosing the Right Material
Solid hardwood doors in maple, oak, or cherry are commonly used for stained doors where the wood grain’s natural beauty is enhanced and protected by a professionally applied finish. Wood doors are strong and durable, and scratches or dents can be repaired with sanding and a coat of matching stain.
Stained wood doors are a great choice for homeowners wanting classic-looking cabinetry that shows off both the beauty and the sturdiness of hardwood doors.
MDF or Medium Density Fiberboard is a manufactured wood product that combines wood fibers with wax and resin. MDF is denser than hardwood and offers a much smoother finish with no graining. This makes MDF an ideal material for making painted cabinet doors. Due to its density and consistent structure, MDF can be machined using high-speed CNC cutting tools. These tools help create a variety of different 3-D profiles which are perfect for cabinet doors.
MDF, as a material, is not waterproof. However, by painting its surface, MDF becomes highly water-resistant which makes it ideal for high humidity places like bathrooms or kitchens. It’s also a favorite for cottages as its durability helps keep it intact during the hot and humid summers.
Acrylic is a non-toxic finish that gives a perfectly smooth texture and a high-gloss appearance to your space. Acrylic doors are made by applying sheets of acrylic over medium-density fiberboard (MDF), covering it with a protective layer, and sealing at the edges.
This high-quality synthetic material comes in a perfect mirror-like finish that’s shatter and chip resistant. Available in a wide range of colors, acrylic finish gives a resplendent appearance to your home.
Thermofoil cabinets are cost-effective, easy to care for, and easy to maintain. They are available in a wide range of colors and patterns. Thermofoil cabinets are made using a flexible vinyl material that is applied by heating the vinyl and molding it over medium-density fiberboard (MDF).
Thermofoil cabinets are prized as ideal for kitchen or bathroom cabinets because of their superior moisture resistance. Their laminate surface is stain-resistant and easy to clean. The laminate also ensures the cabinet is resistant to chips and cracks, even in high humidity environments.
